TGS BLOCK CAPTAINS MISSION
We work with our neighbors for the betterment of our community, while always treating them with courtesy, dignity and respect.
DEFINITION OF A BLOCK CAPTAIN
Block captains are action-oriented individuals who use their observation, listening, communicating and problem-solving skills to work with their neighbors for the betterment of the community.
EXPECTATIONS OF A BLOCK CAPTAIN:
- Introduce yourself as the Block Captain; let neighbors know that you are available to help solve problems. Share your phone # and e-mail address. Create a block phone # or e-mail list, so neighbors can communicate.
- Be a point person for residents on your block, linking them to available resources. Provide neighbors with important phone numbers to call with problems including Police, Alderman and NSO.
- Keep an eye on your block, acting accordingly with everyone’s safety and well-being in mind. Get to know your block by walking street and ally; encourage your neighbors to do the same. Lead by example by maintaining property.
- Attend monthly block captain meetings and share meeting information with your neighbors. Report problems to Neighborhood Stabilization Officer. Communicate important information to neighbors.
- Welcome new neighbors to your block, while encouraging all neighbors to get to know one another. Distribute "New Neighbor Welcome Packet" to new neighbors.
