Dear Neighbor,
As your alderman I take seriously any action that affects the quality of life here in our neighborhood.
Last week, I was summoned to a hastily organized meeting in the mayor's office. The improvements to South Grand have been fast-tracked by the metropolitan planning organization called East-West Gateway. They have retained a design firm to engage the community and offer a redesign of Grand Boulevard between Arsenal and McDonald.
Because of an attempt to use federal stimulus funds, the proposed timeline is very short. The intent is to start construction by December 1st. The design firm will be sending representatives to our neighborhood association meetings and hosting community charrettes in the first week of August. When I receive more information about the times and locations of these proposed charrettes I will post them immediately.
I believe a well-planned, well-designed and well-implemented plan to improve Grand Avenue could enhance our community, however, I need your help to do it.
Please take the time to attend your neighborhood meetings in the next two months because the design consultants have informed me that they will be attending to hear your thoughts about any proposed improvements.
If you cannot attend the meetings, I will post regular updates on any progress that I come across on this list.
I know this is as important to you as it is to me. Thank you for taking a minute to help out.
Respectfully yours,
Jennifer Florida
